Learn something every day
Do you ever have one of those days where you just want to "coast" during a race?? You tell yourself, "just go, run like it's just another training day, it will be fine". Or you're about to start a wod and you just want to, "get through it"....and then it happens....
I was at the Roosa Gap 5K and I asked Barb Ferrante to ride her bike next to me because she has a stress fracture. I figured we'd talk and just have a nice easy run and catch up. WOW I was waaaay off!
Barb got in "coach" mode and started taking this race like the Olympics! Pick up your feet! Relax your breathing! Quicker steps you're slowing down! (sound familiar) All of a sudden this became VERY important. I changed every thought in my head. I could NOT let Barb down. She was in the zone and I desperately wanted to knock her off her bike but at the same time I just let her take over. Her intense coaching and her absolute belief in me made me want to give my all. It was a watershed (can you tell we are in SAT mode) moment!! Wake up you loser and race to the best of your ability TODAY. I always tell athletes, "if you go to a race....then race!" Well, I raced. It wasn't pretty but let me tell you, it was awesome!! THANK YOU BARB!

Cooking and cleaning
When did I become my mother???
Cooking, cleaning, laundry and the dreaded shopping. How did this happen?
If you EVER hear me talk about curtains or ironing just slap me.
What did you do today? Every day we get up not only is it a great day BUT we also get the chance to start new. Believe me after eating all that pizza I started my Paleo again. Boy did my stomach hurt!!

Get Fired Up!!
Today I had the opportunity to compete with some great local people at a crossfit competition. I left happy, inspired and sooooo FIRED UP!! Not because of my effort. Not because of a new PR. Not because of my placing. I left fired up because I saw women doing things they never dreamed possible. I saw women leaving their hearts out on the floor and finishing in a pile of sweat, knowing they just did something other women just dream of doing. I watched these women and I was proud to be there with them.
We ALL need to get something that puts us waaaaaay out of our comfort zone to feel what these ladies and I felt today. I don't care if it's going back to school, starting a compost pile or running a marathon. Find something you are passionate about, put yourself out there and experience pride you have never felt before. I promise you WON'T be disappointed.

Gettin' After Grace!
Benchmark month continues at the PG. We did "Grace" today. 30 clean and jerks for time. Torp posts the fastest time.
Today was the return of SUE!! Very excited to have her back. (and yes her pants were on right) It's been a full week and Torp has NOT used her hook once. It may be a record! Cindy has returned and looks fabulous. Gary going on Paleo has really done well for Cindy. Jojo continues to reshape her body. This paleo way of eating is really working for her!
Don't forget there is a surprise next Monday at 5:00. You do NOT want to miss it!!!

Barney has a friend and rubber bands
Look what the Paleo Price brought. It's starting to get a little creepy. I feel like they are watching me when I work out.
We have all missed the boat! I went to Michael's today to buy Kate some of those rubber bands for the bracelets she made us all. I figured she was running low because she wanted the one that was too small back. WELL i found out why!! I got 4 little bags and went to the register not even bothering to look at the price. They're little rubber bands, how much could they possibly be? The lady told me $17.26. I said what??? She said $17.26 again. I had a $5 bill in my hand. I thought for rubber bands!!! OMG I was blown away. Seriously, why can't one of us come up with an idea like this??? I just paid $17 for rubber bands. Whose the sucker now. The worst part was I didn't blink an eye I just gave her a $20 bill.

I really need to see +Chet
I have nothing to write about! I haven't see the Paleo Prince in a few days so I have no material. I am sure he's been doing something I can appreciate but unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of seeing him. Don't worry ladies I am sure I will see him soon.
In the meantime, Country Roads Bike Tour will be taking place on Sunday September 22nd leaving from Warwick HS. Cindy and Eileen are going and looking to see if anyone else is interested in joining them.

PG is OPEN
Today was the first day in the new and improved PG. it was awesome!! We are doing a benchmark month. This means every WOD will be a named benchmark like "Fran" or "Isabelle". We will get our new 1 RM (rep maxes) at the end of our next 4 week cycle.
We had the return of Cindy and Reggie today. We will see Sue on Thursday and hopefully Jean. Looking forward to having the whole group together again.

What's your goal?
This post should have been last week. With the new school year starting, the new and improved PG opening it's time to set some SMART goals. Each month is a great time to put on paper what you want to accomplish. It can be a very small goal (short term) but you can also include a long term goal and take small steps towards it. ALL goals need to encompass the following:
S pecific
M easureable
A ttainable
R ealistic
T imely
Keeping the SMART principle in mind, think about what you want to accomplish this month and write it on the goal board!!
Here's two of mine:
Sweep and mop the PG floor 1/week on Fri or Sat night. I will keep a chart and make sure it's done!
Be able to perform a bar muscle up w/o a band before Halloween (Oct 31).

What did you decide??
It's September 6th. What have you decided about Paleo?? Are you still on it 100%? Have you reintroduced things you can't live without? Speaking with Torp, I know it's not truly "realistic" that you can do Paleo 100%. You go out, you go to parties, you didn't have time to cook etc. etc. There needs to be a point where you are "happy" truly happy with what you're eating. I can tell you without a doubt cream in my coffee makes me HAPPY. You need to decide what works for you. Barb F does 100% paleo during the week and then goes to an 80/20 split for the weekend. This allows for going out to eat, maybe a glass of wine or whatever floats your boat. The key is now that you've done all this work and are feeling great, you don't want to go backwards. Modify the Paleo lifestyle to meet your needs but keep moving forward.

Well the Purple Garage is completely back together BUT it needs another 24 hrs before we can lift weights on it soooooo we had fun on the blacktop!

Back to school blues and purples.
True story. Torp calls me up Monday night (she always texts me so I know something is up) and wants yo know what I am doing on Tuesday!! Like she doesn't KNOW I am going back to school. She feigns innocence and swears she forgot. Yeah right! Nice move Torp you're up 1-0. Remember what they say about payback. I believe the word burpee comes to mind.
Anyway, back to school may bring the blues but I have been dreaming in purple. We start up the NEW and improved PG on Thursday. Everyone keeps asking what the new challenge is going to be. We all know whatever it is the first name is already on the whiteboard!

Paleo Wrap Up and Back to School
So what's the first thing you just "had" to have? Have you even gone off paleo yet? (Not including the pimp he went off day 5) I don't know about you but I am really scared to take that first bite of bread or bagel or pasta. I think I really like waking up with a flat belly, no bloat and lots of energy. Let me know what you're doing about all this. I know I saw Torp this morning and instead of getting a bagel drenched in butter (that sounds so good) she was headed into Shop Rite (with really baggy pants on) to buy coconut oil and plantains! BTW Torp Joey said after you left, "I wish I knew Torp when she was young!" Swear to God!! PLEASE don't tell him I wrote this.
I know YOU'RE all excited I am going back to school but that just means I will be more pissed off and you will get harder wods. HUH! Too bad for you...HB don't care!!
Labor Day 5k tomorrow. I smell some PRs coming!!
Oh yeah the PG is looking good! Paint on the walls, cracks on floor filled. Pictures below. I know they look blue but trust me the walls are purple, very purple.
